Procedures

  • Action Action is no longer the main focus of the text or it has a symbolical/implicit/more general meaning.
  • Chronology Subjective and relative chronology. Different timelines and shifts in time.
  • Storyline(s) Meta-narrative sequences.
  • Perspective Changing of different perspectives need not be transparent.
  • Meaning Intertextual, meta-narrative, concrete and abstract motifs and even subtle leitmotifs

Style

  • Vocabulary Diversity can be mastered (historical, regional and experimental vocabulary).
  • Sentence construction The sentences may be long and complex (historical, regional idiom.
  • Stylistic Experimental, poetical and metapoetical use of language. Implicitness and various, even obsolete historical stylistic features.

Characters

  • Character Symbolic objects or spaces may have the qualities of a character. The book may require that references to classical characters are recognized.
  • Number Not important, even if the connections between many different characters are not clearly marked.
  • Relations The book may require that the relations are recognized as implicit references to classical motifs (the Bible, mythology etc.), and intertextuality in general.
